Getting High

I'll be taking a break from blogging for a few weeks. In the meantime, feel free to peruse the Greg T. archives and links. Thanks to my brother Chris for helping me with HTML code on the blog template, so I could finally provide links to recommended sites.

Speaking of my bro, he is a recent arrival in Blogistan. Check out his new Anti-Blog, a showcase for assorted raw rants.

Last but not least, I'm happy to announce the arrival of "The High Hat", a fine new netzine. The first issue features contributions from several people who post in the hip & brainy "I Spit On Your Groove" forum at PeoplesForum.com. Scroll down to the "Screeds" section, and you'll see two contributions from yours truly.

See you in September.
American Idol 1, God 0

And now, another timely and cheerful dispatch from Chester Magpie, underground pundit:

"We should try to gear up for that big-time Bush re-election, full of 'Get in that cell, n*gger' and fat-cat, smoke-stack death tolls. The American people don't seem at all too concerned with his domestic shit and they seem to just love his bloody hands. I feel like I live in another world...maybe it's on Sesame Street.

Dean is going to make an ass out of himself. He's already spoken out against the 'holy war'. I can just feel it. Bush Co. is something that's here to stay and God help us...but too bad, God is so dead. I think He lost out to that frizzy-haired bitch on American Idol."

Black Box = Black Hole?

It's still aways from what common folk talk about over dinner, but the subject of computerized "Black Box" voting, and the potential danger of voter fraud that comes with it, is gaining a bit more traction in the media.

The New York Times recently published an article about a recent Johns Hopkins study that calls into serious question the security of high-tech voting machines being installed in several states.

More recent info on the topic can be found in this overview from NewScientist.com, and this editorial by U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, written for the Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel.

In Table Talk's White House forum, TT poster Fergus has been looking into last year's Georgia Senate race between Saxby Chambliss and Max Cleland, and has cast some suspicion over the results of that race, won by the Republican Chambliss over the Democratic incumbent Cleland. In the "Touch Screen Voting" thread, Fergus recently wrote:

As to Diebold (the company that manufactured Georgia's computer voting machines), I'm now told that three certified Microsoft programmers have confirmed that the "hack" (i.e. the multiple back doors, the THREE separate sets of books, the ability of ANYONE to add or subtract votes if they have the passwords) has been specifically traced back to Diebold...The Genie is out of the bottle. That coding is all over the internet, and now (literally) ANYONE can go in and hack those machines. So, as the Johns Hopkins researchers pointed out, we have to start fresh, from the beginning. AND, whatever they produce to replace this MESS that they produced to begin with, MUST be open source coding.

The entire thread is worth checking out. And a current bill in Congress, requiring more accountability re: Black Box voting, is worth supporting.
